Dr. Longzhan Gan is a Lecturer, Specially-appointed Professor, and Master’s Supervisor at the College of Life Sciences, Guizhou University, where he also serves as a Young Member of the Professional Committee of Microbiome of the Guizhou Provincial Society for Microbiology. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Biological Engineering (2013–2017) and Doctor of Engineering in Fermentation Engineering (2017–2022) from Sichuan University. His research focuses on extremophiles and microbial systematics, the exploration and development of novel exopolysaccharides, and lignin biodegradation with bacterial valorization for sustainable bioproducts. Dr. Gan has published extensively in high-impact journals such as Microbiology Spectrum, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, Food Chemistry, Archives of Microbiology, and Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, with notable contributions including the discovery of novel halophilic bacterial species, structural characterization of exopolysaccharides, and development of biopolymer-based food packaging materials. His research has been recognized through multiple national and provincial research grants, including leadership of projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Guizhou Provincial Basic Research Program, underscoring his growing influence in microbial biotechnology. He has also contributed as an author to studies on bacterial pigments, plant growth-promoting salt-tolerant bacteria, and microbial valorization strategies, which reflect both fundamental and applied dimensions of his work.
